11-Year-Old on Industrial Food System

This video made me cry tears of joy! An eleven-year-old, Birke Baehr, explains how he discovered the “dark side of the industrialized food system” and what he’s going to do to change it.

Birke says:

So I asked myself, how can I change? How can I change these things?

He goes on to say:

A while back I wanted to be an NFL football player. I decided I’d rather be an organic farmer instead. That way I can have a greater impact on the world.
I want you to know that we can all make a difference by making different choices.

Isn’t Birke Baehr an amazing human being? Eleven years old and smarter and more articulate than most adults.  Not only is he intelligent and well-spoken, he’s passionate. He’s alive!  He’s not dreading a life of office cubicles and watching the clock tick down to 5 pm. He’s on a mission.

This is why I plan to homeschool my daughter. I want my daughter’s life to be her own. I want her to know that she is steering the ship, and she can decide what she wants to do with her own life. Not only to create her own happiness, but to help the world be a better place.

Kudos to Birke Baehr, and to his parents for homeschooling him.

More people need to see Birke explain what is wrong with our food supply and what he is going to do about it.  It’s one thing to see an adult who’s lit up and passionate about creating positive change in the world, but it’s really powerful to see a child with such optimism and determination.
