Free to Be Unschooling Conference 2016

This year we attended our first Free to Be Unschooling Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, September 29-October 2, 2016. We had a total blast! I wanted to share some of our photos and videos.

We met our friends from Vegas, Erin and Matt and their two kids Brooklyn and Ivy (pictured below with my 2-year-old son, Oliver).

The hotel, Embassy Suites in Scottsdale was really nice and very affordable, and the staff was great.

Our view of the pool. Definitely would go back to this hotel. Very comfortable and family friendly!

The free breakfast buffet was amazing. Omelettes, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, cereal — pretty much anything you want.

And they had a happy hour every night with free beer and wine. The parents loved it!

There were lots of fun activities every single day including arts and crafts.

Ollie enjoyed finger painting.

My introverted 9-year-old, Kate, even had fun in the crafts room. But of course, Kate loves drawing.

This is a drawing Kate did on her iPad of her brother Oliver and Jennifer (our nanny).

We made a trip to the art store to buy markers.

Ollie has fun wherever he goes.

One of the best things we went to was Jungle Jill’s wild animals presentation.

She showed us tarantulas.

And an owl.

Here’s Ollie enjoying the show. He kept saying, “Oh, yeah!” When she brought out the tarantulas, he yelled out, “Oh, God!”

This is right after he woke up from a nap. 🙂

The Australian Kookaburra was amazing!

Ollie really loved Jungle Jill’s cart. He loves anything with wheels!

We spent every afternoon in the pool.

This is Ollie after swimming — cold and hungry!

And lots of time just hanging out, playing and making new friends.

And rolling down hills.

And dancing. 🙂

If you are unschoolers, we hope to see you at the Free to Be conference next year!
