Bangers and Mash is traditional English “pub food” consisting of mashed potatoes and sausages. It’s one of our family’s favorite meals in the fall and winter. It’s easy to make and everybody loves it. Bangers and Mash is typically served with steamed green peas and/or carrots.

Welsh Rabbit (Rarebit)

Welsh Rabbit, or Rarebit, as most people know it, is essentially a sort of open-faced grilled cheese sandwich. If you say “rabbit,” instead of rarebit, most people will correct you. Unless they are Welsh (like my step-father), or into etymology and know better.

Eton Mess

Eton Mess

Every year on June 4th, Eton College, the private British high school for boys, serves something called Eton Mess. Eton Mess is a strawberry-and-whipped-cream dessert. It also includes meringues, broken up into the mix. Perhaps this is why they call it a “mess”.
